We need your input!
OHS Learning Portal Advisory Committee
The Oregon Historical Society
(OHS) is seeking volunteers, visitors,
local educators, and other
community members to be part of the Learning Portal Advisory Committee. The
Learning Portal will be an interactive
learning space opening at OHS in 2015. It will serve as a cultural meeting ground for young visitors to better engage with and appreciate the depth and variety of the state’s history.
We are seeking three teachers, three parents of young children
(age 3-8), and two K-12
students representing diverse Oregon experiences to provide ideas, advice,
and feedback on the Learning Portal’s design and content creation. Candidates should
have a passion for education, especially museum-based education. We are looking for people interested in working collaboratively on creative ways to engage a
broader audience with Oregon’s dynamic, diverse,
and interconnected history.
Committee members must
be able to participate in meetings, be on time, engage in discussion, and give feedback and guidance that will be
integrated into the development,
design, and evaluation phases of
this project. The committee will
meet monthly beginning in January 2015, in person or
by phone, until
the Learning Portal opens in the Fall of 2015.
Afterwards, meetings will be
called
as necessary to
refresh Learning Portal content (estimated to take place every 18 months). The time
commitment
should average two hours per week.
We are seeking teachers who are familiar with curriculum
standards and have creative ideas of how to align these to museum
experiences for the 3-17 age group (CDU certificates available). We would like parents to bring a perspective on early childhood development, and K-12 students
to bring ideas on ways to
engage young people.
To Apply: Submit a one page
explanation of your qualifications for the position and why you would
like to serve on the Learning Portal Advisory Committee. Teachers,
please include a resume.
Please submit your application or any questions you have about the advisory committee to Denise
Brock
at Denise.Brock@ohs.org. Submissions are
due by January 31, 2015. Thank you for
your help!
