Opportunity to Participate in STEM Grant - Expansion of K-6 NGSS Instructional Specialist Development Program
We wanted to share with you a great opportunity to participate
in a science professional development grant to support expanding the
role of science teacher leaders in Portland Public Schools. As we transition to the Next Generation
Science Standards (NGSS), there will be a need to develop teacher leaders who
are committed to delivering culturally responsive science instruction and
increase access to highly skilled educators to facilitate building and district
level professional development on the NGSS.
Portland
Public Schools is a partner with Portland State and the Portland Metro STEM
Partnership on a recently awarded Title IIB Math-Science Partnership grant
entitled "Expansion of K-6 NGSS Instructional Specialist Development
Program" that supports increasing access to science instructional
leaders. This grant includes:
•
Provision of 240 hours
(24 credits) of professional development over three years on
the Next Generation Science Standards and effective science instruction
for PPS teacher leaders.
•
Yearly stipends of $1200 for program participation are provided through grant
funding.
•
Participants will work with
his/her administrator to develop
a
plan of implementation supporting effective science instruction at the building
and/or district level.
Interested
teachers can find out more information about the opportunity including a press
release, a Powerpoint presentation that explains the whole project and the
online application at pdxstem.org on the home
page at the top left.
The online
application needs to be submitted by January 30, 2015.
