The Black Experience in America's Whitest City


Portland's troubled racial history is often ignored amid the recent swell in the city's notoriety. From the racial exclusion laws that remained in effect until 1926, to Japanese internment, to the repeated and ongoing forced displacement of Portland's African American community, our history affects the way our students interact with our city and our schools.
