ESL Materials Adoption Pilot

Attention ESL Teachers:

Are you a 6-12 ELD teacher who would like to pilot some materials? Fill out this survey and let us know.

The pilot will consist of teaching one unit of National Geographic Cengage INSIDE/EDGE (either Fundamentals for Levels 1/2 or Inside B for Levels 3/4) using Step Up to Writing and Newsela as supplements.

The other option, which you may choose in addition to the curriculum, is to pilot Light Sail. This online resource is a collection of 80,000 fiction and nonfiction texts that students can choose from based on their Lexile level and interest. (See the link below for more detailed information.)

We are hoping that as many 6-12 ELD teachers as possible will choose to pilot the curriculum so that we can work in collaboration next year.

If you pilot materials, you commit to:
- attend the PD (Newsela and Light Sail - Aug 10-11, INSIDE/EDGE/SUTW - TBD)
- collect student data
- share with department colleagues about your experience
- support PD for other teachers if this material is adopted.

More information about the materials can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/ppspilotmaterials

Please consider taking part in this opportunity to lend your professional expertise to the adoption process. Please complete the survey by the end of the day on Monday, June 15th.

Thank you!

Language Arts Materials Adoption Pilot Opportunities (6-12)

As part of the 6-12 Language Arts Adoption process, teachers can apply to pilot either curriculum materials or digital text resources (current access to digital devices is not a prerequisite). The pilot will take place during the first two quarters of the 2015-16 school year.

As an alternative, teachers can also apply to be a member of the Novel Committee. This committee will determine new titles to be purchased for each grade level, in addition to reviewing and revising the Core Works Lists. This work will also take place during the first half of the 2015-16 school year.

Before filling out the application survey, teachers should review the descriptions of the materials and resources that are available for piloting by clicking on this link: http://tinyurl.com/ppspilotmaterials

The deadline for applications is Friday, June 5th. Teachers will be notified regarding their participation on or before Friday, June 12th.
