Learning Science in Learning Gardens
Explore the Next Generation Science Standards while engaging students at a deep level in garden-based learning experiences by registering for Integrating STEM and Sustainability Educationthrough Learning Gardens, one of many courses being offered by the Portland Metro STEM Partnership and Portland State University.
Learning gardens not only provide a relevant and meaningful context for learning science, but also a way to address growing concerns related to food insecurity, health, and nutrition.
Participants will co-teach a summer garden education program for K-8 students, develop standards-based curriculum that aligns school day and extended-day learning and enrichment, and apply research-based best practices including formative assessment and differentiation strategies.
The course runs from June 19 to July 3 at the community gardens at Vernon and Rigler Elementary Schools. Registration begins May 6.
