The Office of Teaching and Learning is suspending the requirement for teachers to report out on student proficiency for 4th quarter of this school year. The timeline for implementing the proficiency comments has been updated, and reporting will now take place on the 3rd Quarter report card of the 2014-15 school year.
This delayed implementation will give principals more time to engage teachers in professional learning to support effective use of the proficiency comments. It will also allow for more timely and effective communication with stakeholders about the proficiency comments and the district’s transition to proficiency reporting. Finally, reporting during 3rd quarter will allow families sufficient time to engage in dialogue with schools and teachers before the end of the school year.
Building administrators should be communicating this change to teachers while continuing to facilitate conversation around sound grading practices as we prepare for proficiency reporting next year.
